A tiny Caribbean nation momentarily forgets its woes as it celebrates its football team’s ascension to the World Cup 2006. In episode #36 Nicholas Laughlin and I (Georgia) go in search of the euphoria–which, as it turns out, isn’t too hard to find. If you’re a fan of blaring car horns, rhythm sections, stream of consciousness, slightly distorted audio and the sounds of a country in the throes of ecstacy, this one’s for you.

This Soundseeing tour depicts The Cheryl Dawson Memorial Walk-a-thon. It is not done as a normal soundseeing tour where the surroundings are described. This one is portrayed through the voices of those that attended. It is an interesting way to do a soundseeing tour and also is a very moving podcast.

“On September 25, 2005, I, my 8-year old daughter, and other members of our church participated in this memorial walk to help raise awareness for domestic abuse. Cheryl Dawson was one of the members of our church, and she was brutally murdered by her estranged husband on the way home from work in 2002. The organizer of the event was an audio witness to her murder.
As gruesome as the event sounds, since I was living in Dayton at that time, I focused my energy on interviewing other members to get their impressions of Cheryl. I also interviewed Betsy, who organized the event, who said she did it as a way to provide healing not only for herself but for others.
The podcast showcases the beautiful piano music of Rob Costlow, who is available at the Podsafe Music Network. The last song is from Adrina Thorpe, who is also on the Podsafe Music Network.”
